Description
The reproduction open comb safety razor is a modern version of the WWI era razor. Open comb safety razors were a popular early variation of the safety razor. The open comb offers a closer shave. The comb lifts longer hairs, allowing the blade to get closer to the skin, which makes the useful for beard and mustache detailing.
During WWI, Gilette supplied 3.5 million safety razors and 32 million packs of double-edged disposable blades to American troops during WWI. Gilette’s razors and disposable blades replaced the bulky straight razor and strop in the army field kit. Â Soldiers were permitted to keep the razors after they returned from the war. Â This created a built-in demand for disposable blades. Â Gilette’s strategy of giving away or discounting razor handles to sell blades is still used today.
