While the British Air Ministry marked Acme Thunderer is the most iconic of all the whistles used during WWII, it’s certainly not the only style. Plastics were better suited than metal and wood to withstand wet, cold conditions.  Wartime dated plastic whistles were manufactured by both the Army and the Navy. They appeared in both black and olive drab. Several different body styles existed. They attached by ring, dogtag style chain, or fabric cord.
