Description
This Repro WWII One Pound TNT Block is a reproduction from an original 1 Lb TNT container in our collection.
The TNT block is thick cardboard, just like the WW2 original, with two caps. Â The end cap has the correct size hole for display with a fuse or other firing device. The tube is EMPTY. The caps themselves are made of plastic and are not removable.
These 1 lb TNT bricks were used by various Army, Navy, and Marine engineer and demolitions units. Note that the 1 lb end cap accepts a different size fuse or detonator than the half-pound block.
According to TM 9-2900, Military Explosives, TNT was “used for military purposes in demolition work on bridges, railroads, etc., and for land mines placed under enemy trenches or fortifications. For demolition work carried on by the Corps of Engineers, the TNT is made up in the form of small, highly compressed blocks enclosed in a fiber container which, protects them from crumbling in handling and renders them waterproof.”
The One Pound TNT Block is an empty, dummy cardboard cylinder for display.
